If you missed it yesterday, I shared some free resources on Bunraku Japanese puppet theater to add to your studies on Japan (and a perfect addition to Sonlight Core 5 or F).
Kendo is a Japanese martial art that derived from Samurai training. We spent yesterday afternoon learning about the origins of Kendo, how it evolved into the popular sport it is today, the rules of a match, the equipment worn, and finished off by watching a spirited demonstration of various techniques.
Start with this 2 part article on Kendo at Kids Web Japan.
Then watch this 3 part series that demonstrates the equipment and basic Kendo moves:
Follow it up with this more advanced demonstration:
Afterwards, the kiddos enjoyed filling out these notebooking pages I created for them.
Click on the version you’d like to download.
These notebooking pages are free for your personal use. I hope you enjoy adding Kendo to your study of Japan.
